Why is IT Security so Difficult

Not to long ago, we came across a client that really wanted to know the reasons that so many companies keep having security vulnerabilities, flaws, and breaches. There are so many technical reasons for this, but standing firm on our goal to find a way to describe it became an inter-office challenge and the winner was this: "IT Security requires more daily homework then a bachelors degree, and it never ends." This statement is very true, it takes hours a day at a minimum and then you have critical vulnerabilities, "Zero-Day" issues, and of course global attacks. It is a lot of work, but with the right design, both physically and through policies, a lot of the threats out there just can't get in through the front door.
